Imagine FOOD | Speculative Design

We have just wrapped up the first Speculative Design Course with the students of the MA in HCI at the IDC Herzliya. The core theme that we discussed was Food, however, we looked at it from various perspectives and through crossing it with different personal and global issues. The students created their own speculative worlds, exploring different possible imaginary societies.

– – – Obviously, this whole semester demonstrated a global scale crazy scenario: Early 2020, as we launched this new course of Speculative Design, imagining a shift in our society and cultural norms … well, once again, fact is stranger than fiction, and our recent social behaviours defies imagination.

We practiced this collage method, in order to create / imagine explicit situations that express conflicts on the topic of new technology and food – this helped us to form different fictional societies.

How can technology enhance certain social values in relation to food? Which type of imaginary society can take advantage of those new tech possibilities? Here are some of the initial images by few teams:
