Rebellious Chairs (archived)

A mini-exhibition of six different interactive chairs, each prototype reflects a speculative new world

What if chairs could express their emotions? | Redefining Human-Chair Interaction.

I recently found pictures from this very loved workshop, “Rebellious Chairs”. This workshop was one of the few collaborations I managed between MIT Media Lab and ENSAD (aka “ArtDeco”) in Paris. It took place back in 2012, so many year ago – however, its results are still quite impressive; It clearly demonstrates the strength of speculative approach in design, as we were crafting the emotional stories behind the objects, behaviours and interactions. Some of those interactive chairs were quite complex to produce, some are quite provocative in their critical concept – and all of then were real functioning prototypes that provided a playful experience to our audience.

As always, it makes me appreciate the documentation of projects like these, and what a pity it is that things like this disappear from the internet after a while. Let’s try to archive these cookies!
